Description of Service

1. Introduction

XUND has developed a Software as a Medical Device (“SaMD”) that enables users to make informed health decisions by providing digital and automated interactions by asking them relevant questions tailored to each stage of the patient journey.  This Patient Interaction Suite allows healthcare companies to build customized digital health assistants for their customers.

The technology is the result of years of research and development and is based on millions of medical publications that are processed automatically using artificial intelligence (“AI”). Our in-house team of physicians verifies this data again qualitatively using reference literature and real-world experience. The Patient Interaction Suite is certified as a class IIa medical device in accordance with the Medical Device Regulation (“MDR”) and, therefore, meets the highest quality and safety standards.

2. Patient Interaction Suite

The Patient Interaction Suite enables the integration of all Medical Modules, basic services, and add-on services of XUND into the digital ecosystem of our customers (see figure). This enables healthcare companies to increase efficiency by automating routine tasks, reduce costs by minimizing human resources, and build patient-centered solutions through natural language understanding and data analysis.

2.1. Medical Modules

XUND’s Patient Interaction Suite is a fully modular offering that provides maximum flexibility and customization. The Medical Modules can be integrated via three layers of interfaces: Medical API, SDKs, and Web Apps. The Patient Interaction Suite provides the following Medical Modules, which can be implemented all together or individually.

2.1.1. Symptom Check

The Symptom Check helps to identify possible causes for the user's symptoms. Based on the main symptom, the module provides in-depth questions and suggests additional accompanying symptoms that are likely based on the available information. After further questions about the user’s general health, lifestyle, and habits are answered, a preliminary assessment and relevant medical conditions are provided to navigate the patient to the right medical solution and speed up the recovery.

2.1.2. Illness Check

The Illness Check addresses the problem from a different angle and helps to assess the assumption of suffering from a specific condition. Based on the suspected condition, the module provides questions about relevant symptoms and risk factors that may influence the likelihood and provides a preliminary risk assessment. In addition to the analyzed condition, it will also point out likely alternative causes. In the case of the Illness Check, it is also possible to apply the analysis exclusively to selected conditions of interest (e.g., COVID-19).

2.1.3. Health Check (coming soon)

The Health Check will provide a 360-degree health risk assessment aimed at asymptomatic patients. By asking questions revolving around lifestyle, medications, family history, and preexisting conditions of the user, the module will create a risk profile aimed at identifying relevant preventive measures and creating a medical data baseline that can also be used to feed into Symptom and Illness Checks.

2.1.4. Patient Monitoring (coming soon)

The Patient Monitoring will make use of our Symptom and Illness Check algorithms in a sequential way to observe the development of a patient's health over time.

2.2. Basic Services

All Medical Modules come with the following basic services that are included by default in any license agreement.

2.2.1. Medical Content

The medical content contains basic information about the most common diseases and self-help recommendations. The content was developed by the medical team of XUND, complies with ISO 13485 standards, and thus meets the highest quality standards.

2.2.2. Client Hub

The Client Hub serves as a portal for our clients to access and manage their selected Medical Modules and add-ons. The platform is the central touch point for integrating and working with our Patient Interaction Suite.

Additionally, the Client Hub offers access to usage analytics, allowing our clients to gain insights into how users interact with the Medical Modules. The statistics provided here include, for example, the number of API calls in a given period or the number of patients who completed the assessment.

2.2.3. Region & Language

Being a medical device manufacturer that is compliant with EU MDR, we can, in principle, deploy our Patient Interaction Suite in all countries and states of the European Union. However, there are local regulations, primarily of a linguistic nature, which restrict this. We have translated our medical database and content compliant with ISO 17100 and ISO 18587, thereby ensuring the quality and safety of our solution. We currently provide the following languages:

  • German
  • English
  • Hungarian
  • Italian
  • French
  • Dutch

Therefore, we can currently be active in the following countries:

  • Austria
  • Germany
  • Switzerland
  • Liechtenstein
  • Hungary
  • United Kingdom
  • Ireland
  • Malta
  • Italy
  • France
  • Netherlands
  • Belgium
  • Luxembourg

Important: Only one region (e.g. Germany) and the respective official language (e.g., German) are included by default. Further regions and languages can be added as required. This will also affect the license fee.

2.3. Add-on services

The Patient Interaction Suite of XUND is designed in a modular way. This means that the Medical Modules (see Pt 2.1) can be extended with a range of add-on services:

2.3.1. Medical Library

The medical library contains in-depth fact sheets of the most common diseases with detailed information on diagnosis, treatment, and outlook. The fact sheets were developed together with our partner Thieme Group.

2.3.2. Data Insights

The Data Insights provide more detailed insight into the exact results of the patient interactions. This may include, for example, the most common symptoms in a particular age group or the diseases most frequently searched for in the Illness Check.

2.3.3. User Insights

The User Insights provide surveys before and after assessments, capturing the essence of patient intent and feedback. This offers a comprehensive view into user behavior, enriching the understanding of their journey.

2.3.4. Healthcare Providers

Based on the checks, this add-on provides relevant treatment pathways. These can include recommended GPs or specialists in the area, the nearest pharmacy, or a digital health solution such as an app. The range of available healthcare providers differs from country to country, making it necessary to adapt the recommendations for the individual use case.

2.3.5. Ecosystem Management

Ecosystem Management allows our clients to incorporate their existing network of physicians, clinics, or other healthcare services like telemedicine, apps, or online booking platforms. By linking medical conditions (e.g., migraine) to medical specialties (e.g., neurology), we enable our partners to navigate patients within their ecosystem automatically to the right point of care.
